28mm TROY CITADEL WALLS MICK-STARTER

(Michael’s Not-Kickstarter)

This was a campaign that ended 31 August 2021

LATEST UPDATE

2024 : The 28mm Troy Citadel Walls are available to buy here in the shop.

12 September : So far, I can thank only two thirds of KS backers for their reply. It seems only fair to backers who have honoured their pledges that our fulfilment partner goes ahead now without further delay and gets the kits out as soon as possible, hopefully this week. As all the confirmed backers are from overseas, it is a shame that the Troy Walls are not destined for a single tabletop in the UK. I’ll leave it to you to decide what that means about Bronze Age wargaming in the UK but an unfunded KS campaign and complete lack of UK interest bodes well for other periods to jump up the to-do design list.

1 September : The Troy Kickstarter campaign has now ended. I’m very pleased to announce that if all pledges are honoured the Kickstarter will have been funded over the £1,500 that we were asking for!
Emails have been sent out to all backers and interested parties.
If you’ve missed out, you can still sneak in a Kickstarter deal while pledges are being confirmed and before we finalise everything with our fulfilment partner – but hurry!

31 August : LAST DAY! Last chance to bag a Mick-starter kit and to support the Bronze Age Kingdoms range and the chance of future designs!

26 August : PRICE DROP!

We have been working hard to finalise manufacturing costs with our fulfilment partner and we are happy to announce a drop in price of the RRP! This means a drop in the price of the Mick-Starter kits!

With less than a week to go, we haven’t hit any Stretch Goal levels yet. As a result, I’ve decided to price up the stretch goal rewards so that backers can now add them to their pledge. This also means that you can pick up some Cult Stelai or an Anta House at 20% off even if you’re not pledging for any of the mighty walls. Now you can add some Bronze Age standing stone ruins to your Hoplite Greek tabletop!

I’ve also decided to award everyone who has pledged for a Bundle (and our first backer, too!) with a FREE pack of Scaling Ladders as a thank you! The Stretch Goals still stand so keep sending out the messengers and blowing the trumpets!

21 August : We’re half way through the campaign! New Anta House stretch-goal added!

Go to South Gate Anta House.

14 August : Image of South Gate Cult Stelai stretch-goal added.

13 August : Estimated shipping costs added.

12 August : Image of South Tower Cult Stelai stretch-goal added.

10 AUGUST : The campaign goes LIVE!

This Mick-starter is a Not-kickstarter. As a backer, you are under no legal commitment. You are pledging your support for this project. Backers are expected to honour their pledge when the Mick-starter ends and receive any rewards they are entitled to.

THE STORY

Troy! The Trojan Wars needs no introduction – the epic clash of kings and heroes, Agamemnon and Priam, Achilles and Hector, the mighty walls of Troy!

Explore the Bronze Age Kingdoms section of Michael’s blog to see the Trojan models he has been working on. By backing this Mick-starter you are helping to fund the development of these designs and future Bronze Age Kingdoms designs. Although some or all of these Mick-starter kits are destined, we hope, to hit retail shelves, your funding now will directly help with unlocking design time in the future. So, if you like what you see and want more, back this Mick-starter! More backers now means more potential for more Bronze Age Kingdoms kits to come! So, blow the trumpets and send forth the messengers!

TROY CITADEL WALLS

We’re launching the Bronze Age Kingdoms range with a trial kick-starter of a Troy Citadel Walls range. These kits have been designed for the wargames tabletop after concentrated study of the walls of Troy VI, the city that is generally believed to be the Troy of Homer’s Iliad. They represent the south-east corner section of Troy VI’s walls, extending from the South Tower to the East Gate.

The models are designed to be modular. The walkways along the battlements are 50mm wide where the models meet one-another. The range includes two gateways and two towers. The gates and tower features are designed in straight sections. They can be combined with the straight wall sections to produce an entirely straight wall. The angled sections of wall can complete a 90-degree arc of wall. The kits are designed as small-footprint models. The towers are designed with lift-off roofs to make interiors accessible. All the engraved stonework design is hand drawn to suit the individual models.

THE MICK-STARTER

To kickstart this project and for a successful Mick-starter we are looking for an initial £1,500 of funding. We hope this is achievable but there’s every reason for Bundle Backers to spread the word as more rewards will come with more bundle pledges!

All these Mick-starter PRE-COLOURED kits are being offered at 20% OFF RRP!

And they will come with coloured texture powder, too!

And the chance of FREE REWARDS!

The individual kits (101-105) are listed here for those who wish to mix and match but only pledges that include a bundle (B1-B3) are eligible to receive rewards.

101 – This is a kit of one model. The model is based on the South Gate and Tower of Troy VI. The adjoining wall retains the shape of an older tower. More on the South Gate on Michael’s blog here.

There is a ground-level door at the rear of the tower. This portal and trap doors in the floors allow access from level to level, and the kit includes Bronze Age style ladders sized for the levels. The levels lift off for access during game-play.

The model has working gates and door bar – you can literally close the gates and bar entry to those pesky Greeks!

The kit comes with bronze panels to fashion the gates.

Wall length approx. 303mm

Pre-coloured kit – comes with coloured texture powder.

Mick-starter price: £31.20

102 – This is a kit of one model. The model is based on the East Tower that was built to protect the approach to Troy’s East Gate. More on the East Tower on Michael’s blog here.

South Gate Anta House

The so-called Anta House of Troy VI is a cult-related building that stands outside the walls, close up to the South Gate.

An anta house is one that is open on a short side, presumably designed as a porch of some kind. I have invented a wooden partition with a double doorway allowing the house some privacy but also allowing it to fully open onto the roadway.

This anta house, located so near the principle gate of Troy, may have been associated with cult activity as evidence of burning and religious ritual have been found within its walls. However, the Bronze Age peoples of the Aegean did not have temples so this building is not a temple. Any religious activity may have been associated with the South Gate and the large stone stelai that stood on the other side of the roadway.

107 – South Gate Anta House

Mick-starter price: £12.00

The model has a stone bench, decorated fireplace with smoke hole, and working doors.

More pledges will mean more rewards!

What you see in the kit photos is what you get – kits in pre-coloured MDF – plus you also get colour-matched texture powder!
Finish off your kits however you want –
– A simple assembly and you have multi-coloured models ready to game!
– Colour match and paint the tab ends for an extra smart finish!
– Use the render powder to add an instant textured finish to your models!
– Go the whole way and add colour washes and weathering to create your own masterpieces!

WHAT TO DO

Post a comment on this page. All you need to do is to leave your identifier. This does not have to be your real name. To secure your identifier you are welcome to email Michael more detail about yourself or just let Michael know about your interest in Bronze Age gaming.

In your comment, clearly list the code numbers of your pledge and the total of your pledge amount. Do this by the Mick-starter end date: 31 August 2021. Any rewards will be added at the time of shipping. Pledges will be shipped from UK. Shipping will be charged at cost and added to the pledge amount.

This Mick-starter is a Not-kickstarter. As a backer, you are under no legal commitment. You are pledging your support for this project. Backers are expected to honour their pledge when the Mick-starter ends and receive any rewards they are entitled to. Backer status ends with the ending of the Mick-starter.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT

By backing this Mick-starter you are helping the development of these designs by Supreme Littleness Designs. What happens next will depend on this Mick-starter. The kits listed will have a single release date. They may ship on time, they may not. As a backer, we appreciate your enthusiasm and that you accept a degree of uncertainty. As a backer you have the opportunity to buy the kits at a special price.

If this Mick-starter campaign proves successful, 4Ground have agreed to be our fulfilment partner and produce the kits in colour. We are very exited about this! We think the designs excel as pre-coloured models. Coloured texture powder that colour matches the kits will also be included. We are even more exited about this! Together these provide not only a simple and easy way of getting the models onto the tabletop but also an effective undercoat and textured base for those wishing to produce their own unique finish.

This Mick-starter introduces these kits to the market at a special pre-order Mick-starter price. We expect the kits to be available for general sale sometime in the future. However, not at the great deal that this introductory price provides with its associated rewards. This is a Mick-starter and it is designed to facilitate those that support us and believe in the product we are developing.

I’d like to pledge to buy the 101 – Troy: South Gate & Tower (32BP) and the 104 -Angled Walls (29.40BP) for a total of 61.40BP. I’ve followed your development of this project eagerly. I already have some of your fine 3mm stuff but the Trojan Walls will add great eye-candy to my nearly finished Trojan War armies for ‘To the Strongest!’ rules.

  2. Marine0846 says:

I have been so waiting for this.
Love your walls you did in your LAF posts from 2017.
    The new ones look great.
    So I am all in.
    Will pledge to purchase,
    B-1 Troy
    Mighty Walls Bundle
    L132.80
I am really excited, (Can you tell).
A question,if I may, with the B-1 bundle, how long would the walls be?
I went and added all the kits, looks like you get a little over 5 feet, if I did my math right.

    • Christopher Regan says:

Wasn’t that post from Chris at Crocodile Games? His walls are not getting made.

These were in a more recent LAF thread, and are, dare I say it, even better!

    • Thanks! Your excitement is infectious! Yes, I guessed this question would be asked. It’s a little bit difficult to measure because of the angled walls but, yes, adding together the lengths given should give you an approximation. It might be a better indication if I add some images of the bundles in configuration, so I’ll do that!

    • Marine0846 says:

I would like to add to my pledge, please.

  3. Søren Frost says:

    Great!
Will Plegde to purchace: “B1 Troy: mighty walls bundle”

  4. Wim Van den Berghe says:

    i’m really interested!
BUT I live in Belgium. Do you have an EU-friendly way of posting the walls? Friends of me bought some things post-brexit and import taxes were up to 75%, which I simply cannot afford…
My pledge would be B1 Troy: mighty walls bundle.

    • Thanks, Wim. That’s a relevant point. The 20% discount equates to buying the kits without any UK added tax (VAT at 20%). Also, hopefully you’ll get some free stuff. But a 75% tax add on would be still be – well – a sad reflection on the current situation. I’ll have a word with my fulfilment partner and see if they have any customs solutions for our European customers and friends.

      • LAF powerfrog99 says:

Hi, to get the complete EU delivery costs and taxes will be an important information for me being based in Germany .
I saw your stuff on LAF and I’m really interested in a big set. I don‘t mind some delay. However, the Overall costs will be needed to decide.
        Thanks

  5. Ken Eckhardt says:

I will ask for B1 mighty walls bundle, please. Achilles needs something to scale. And buildings whenever those are ready because, well, Achilles needs something to sack!

  6. Jason Lira says:

I would like the B1 Mighty Walls bundle. I’m in the United States but if it’s easier/ cheaper you could send them to my friend in England who will bring them to me when she visits later this year.

  7. Amy Van De Water says:

Oooh man I’m glad I found these! I’m down for B1 – I’d like the whole thing if you please and ty! I’m in the US so I realize shipping prolly will be atrocious but let me know if you’d rather not ship here. Thanks very much!

  8. I’m in for the B1 bundle at £132.80, please.

  9. Steve D says:

Wow! Beautiful stuff. Are there some weathering/washes tutorials on achieving the look in the finished photos? I’d like to see what I’d be getting into. Also, presumably the KS terrain will be just as good and finished as the 4Ground version would be?

    • Thanks!
Check out the Bronze Age Kingdoms project posts on this site for more on my Building Troy project and modelling techniques.
The KS kits are exactly what you see in the photos with the black backgrounds that are included with the kits’ listings and offer prices. 4Ground have agreed to manufacture the KS kits.

  10. DRDHauser says:

Hey I’m all in at B1; long time fan of Troy many thousands of figures to paint mostly Redoubt and Foundry.

  11. gulik23 says:

I’m in at B1, from the USA. Saw this on LAF, very excited about it! I can’t wait to give my Mythic Battles Pantheon figures a new place to fight!

  12. Marine0846 says:

The Anta House is really cool.
All the little additions add lots of interesting details.
I am a little surprised with the lack of comments
and new pledges in the last few days.

  13. Michael Blair says:

Reporting this in a sensible place rather than as a comment on someone else’s post.

    One B1 bundle please.
I have a terrible suspicion it will see more time with my brother’s sigmarines climbing over it than anything historical.

  14. Michael McEwan says:

    B3 for me please Mike

  15. Matthew Mole says:

I’m very interested. I’ve been planning Trojan and Mycenaean armies for a while.

  16. Marine0846 says:

    Hi Michael,
On Aug 29 I added on to my pledge.
But I added it on to an earlier post.
    Not the smartest idea.
    I first pledged for B-1.
    Please add the following:
    (1) 104
    (1) 105
    (1) 106
    (1) 107
    (1) 108
    Thanks,

  17. Brett Miller says:

    Very Impressed!

I would like to Pledge to the Mighty Troy Bundle (101-105).
I’m a bit late for the discount, but what to hell. Shipping to Australia.

  18. Randy Miles says:

    My walls came in yesterday.
    Really like what I ordered.
I have to wait to start on them as they are a Xmas present.

  19. David Barnes says:

Curious – I’m guessing 28mm scale or “epic” but I cannot see the scale anywhere.

  20. Thierry says:

Is it possible to put it now available in the shop ?

    Thanks

  21. The 28mm Troy Citadel Walls are now all available in the shop.
