24 : North East Sector

My Troy setup is being built on a 200mm-square grid made up of my terrain tiles.

The tiles will mostly be my older tiles made with MDF bases and polystyrene tops. These predate my laser-cut Terrain Tiles that are designed to compliment them. The laser-cut designs are more precise but I still have a very big soft spot for the rough-edged polystyrene tops with their ability to be easily modelled.

My terrain tiles are designed to be very adaptable. I can even use ones designed for other projects. For example, these three 100mm-square tiles from my Three Musketeers project.

Having a tabletop of square tiles can be quite helpful for mapping and planning. It’s also quite helpful for focusing on building one or a number of scenery tiles at a time. I’m going to restart my project by concentrating on completing a 600mm-square section of the setup – so, nine tiles.

These tiles have an MDF base and a polystyrene top.

First up, I laid out the Citadel Wall in this sector. I positioned a Citadel Wall model up against the table-edge. This Straight Wall section (SLD-M28-BK-105) stands on the northern edge of my setup.

The next model along the Citadel Wall is the Citadel’s East Gate (SLD-M28-BK-103) – as featured in Post 12 – with a 15-degree Angled Wall (SLD-M28-BK-104) next along.

The wall runs south and will go on to stand on the next tile.

Inside the city, it’s fun to hint at roadways and cobbled surfaces, especially at the gateways. I cut flagstones from cereal packet card and arranged a terrain base to go at East Gate. I also decided at this point that the East Gate could do with a Cult Stela similar to the South Gate’s.
